Nestling in the heart of southwest France, bordered by Périgord, Quercy, the Landes and Gascony, the Lot-et-Garonne département is a leading destination for nature-orientated holidays. Traversed by the two rivers from which it takes its name, this fertile orchard region famous for the Agen prune is crisscrossed by some 200km of navigable waterways and 3,500km of walking and cycling trails. In addition to this natural wealth, it offers beautiful built and rural heritage in the form of bastide towns, castles and manor houses, pigeonaires and windmills. Definitely one for architecture fans and those who love outdoor pursuits!

Our home is located 30km North of Agen, 35km West of Villeneuve Sur Lot and 25km South of Marmande.  Basically smack bang in the middle of the Lot-et-Garonne, Valley of the Lot.

Aiguillon (or Auguillon) is a commune of the Lot-et-Garonne department (47), Aquitaine region in SW France. 30 km from Agen, the department capital.

Aiguillon lies near the two rivers, (Lot and Garonne) junction that gives the name to the department.  Attached to the English crown in 1318, it was conquered by Du Guesclin in 1370.  The future Jean II conducted a large-scale but unsuccessful siege of the place in 1346.  In 1599 it was converted in center of a duchy.

Duke of Aiguillon, (Fr: duc d’Aiguillon) was a title of nobility in the peerage of France created in 1599 by Henry IV of France for Charles, Duke of Mayenne.  It takes its name from the town of Aiguillon.  The title of “Duke of Aiguillon” was suppressed at the time of the French Revolution.

The property is situated in a quiet rural area, but not in an isolated position as Aiguillon village is located 2km distance, a 15 minute walk.
